Halloween Wigs

Wearing a wig with your Halloween costume is a great idea. Not only will it add to the reality of your disguise but it can make your look totally authentic. After all you can't be a real Halloween witch with beautiful blonde hair--well not really anyway. You would want to have bedraggled looking grey hair. A wig is obviously the way to achieve this look. Choosing a Halloween costume is only half the battle in pulling off a great look for all the parties and festivities that this fall holiday brings. You've got to pull off great hair and makeup that will compliment your costume. Dying and styling your own hair for Halloween can be a pain, not to mention a huge mess in the bathroom. So, this year, why not rock an inexpensive Halloween wig instead and cut the time you need to get ready in half! Here are a few tips that will help you choose, prepare, and wear your Halloween wig.

Choose A Wig That's Already Styled The Way You Want
Inexpensive Halloween wigs won't stand a whole lot of styling, hairspray, or pins. So, choose a wig that is already set the way you wish to wear your hair, or at least pretty close. Never (really, never) use heat tools on your Halloween wigs! The wig hair is man-made and will melt on your hot tools, which will likely ruin your tool and the wig. It'll also smell to high heaven! Keep any brushing or combing light, as these wigs aren't meant to take a lot of abuse.

Consider a Wig Cap When you purchase your wig, consider purchasing a wig cap as well. A wig cap will keep your hair under control and will help secure the wig to your head.

Pull Your Hair Back
If your hair is long, pull it straight back into a secure ponytail at the base of your neck. Next, using bobby pins, secure the ends of the ponytail to the back of your head, keeping your hair as flat as possible.

If you have bangs or short hair, secure those loose hairs around your face back with bobby pins.

Put the Cap and Wig On
Next, put the wig cap on according to the package directions, ensuring that all your hair is secure back in the cap.
Style the Wig
After your wig is on and secure you can do some minor styling. Halloween wigs can be colored with temporary spray haircolor, but if you choose to use a spray haircolor, be sure that you have a light colored wig, as these colors will not show up will on dark wigs. Use a strong hairspray, if necessary to set your style.

Now you're ready to apply your makeup, put your costume on and head out to your festivities!

Having the right wig to compliment your Halloween or party costume makes a huge difference. You will look completely different when you don the wig and wear it properly as detailed above.Whenever possible add a wig to your costume whether for Halloween or any other costume occasion.

The Right Way To Wear A Wig

When you have purchased your new wig there is a right way, and a few wrong ways, to get it on your head. You want it to look natural just as if it were your own hair, and to fit closely to your head so that it doesn't scream out "I'm a wig".
A video is possibly the easiest way to see how it should be done. This video is from About.com

Once you have got your wig on your head and are satisified with how it looks you are ready to go out and show it off.  It could be a business style wig which is very conservative and natural looking of course. The other type of wig is something outrageous which will get everyoneto look at you. This might be a brightly colored hair piece such as red, green, blue or yellow. Or in fact any shade you can imagine, because wigs are available in a huge variety of wild colors as well as natural shades.

Your wig could also be in a wild style if thats what you want. Take a look at what Lady Gaga does with wigs and you will get some ideas.Wigs are great for fancy dress also, whether it be a costume party or a Halloween outing. You can find a wig which will be just perfect for your outfit. Wigs for black women can be natural and lovely, or totally whimsical and outrageous in style. Just picture how you want to look and you will find that there is a wig available just as you want it. In short black womens wigs are a wonderful dress-up opportunity, either to look great at work or to look outrageous at a special occasion.

Types And styles Of Wigs For Black Women

Wigs for black women are made in several types and a great variety of styles. Black is of course the natural and most popular color but wigs in various colors can be obtained to suit all tastes. The quality of wigs ranges from the most expensive human hair wigs, through wigs made from animal hair and to the lowest cost hair pieces which are made from synthetic materials such as nylon. The  following material discusses quality wigs which are made on a lace base. This is quoted directly from Wikipedia:

A lace wig or a lace front wig is a special type of hairpiece or wig designed with a sheer lace base. Lace front wigs are made with real human hair or synthetic hair is which tied, by hand, to a sheer lace base. Full lace wigs may have a base made entirely of lace while the more common tactic is a lace front wig which has the sheer lace only at the front where the hairline is visible. The remainder of the wig is made out of a less fragile material which is less susceptible to ripping or tearing than the lace. Full lace wigs can be pulled into a high ponytail and up-do's, as opposed to lace front wigs. The lace is only in the front half of the wig, to allow the customer to part the hair any way he or she wants. If a lace front wig is pulled into a ponytail it will be obvious that it is a wig.
The lace wig is usually attached with the assistance of glues and tapes, which are applied to the front hairline area. Once the glue has dried, the front lace portion of the wig is affixed to the area where the glue has been applied on the hairline, creating a tight bond which keeps the lace wig in place on the head. Some lace wigs also have what is referred to as "baby hair" around the temple areas which is used to cover up any visible signs of lace on the forehead, the baby hair also helps to create a realistic hairline. Once applied the lace front wig will usually stay bonded for up to a week.

Black womens wigs are extremely popular both for wear in the case of lack of hair, which can result as a consequence of illness or simply of age. Fine quality human hair lace front wigs are the top quality, and are excellent for everyday wear. They last longer than synthetic wigs, and can also be readily styled which synthetic wigs cannot. Human hair wigs can be washed and dried just as your own natural hair can. Synthetic wigs on the other hand cannot be exposed to heat from a hair drier (which will destroy them), and cannot be restyled. They will always remain in the original style in which they were  manufactured.

Human Hair Or Synthetic Which Wig Is Best

Is human hair or synthetic hair the best for my wig? What are the advantages of each?
The answer is that it very much depends on what your personal preferences are. A very nice synthetic hair wig can cost much less less than a human hair wig. There is absolutely no doubt about that fact. Is the synthetic wig as good? Well certainly synthetic hair is easier to take care of than a human hair wig. However it has some disadvantages. Synthetic hair can,t be exposed to heat or it will be ruined. This means that you can,t curl it or blow dry it with a hot hair dryer. This of course very much limits the use you can make of your synthetic hair wig. Conversely a human hair wig can be treated just as you treat your own hair. You can wash a human hair wig, blow dry it and curl the hair with hot curlers with absolutely no ill effects. This certainly makes your wig much more adaptable to various treatments.

Human hair wigs are, in the main, made from Asian hair which fortunately is very suitable for African American wigs due to the fact that it is thick black hair. This real hair can be made into very natural looking wigs which are definitely hard to spot, as a wig, if they have been fitted properly. Human hair wigs will last longer than synthetic hair wigs. The real human hair is also very soft and quite natural in appearance and this hair can be styled and dyed if you so desire. A real human hair wig "breathes" much better than a synthetic hair wig and as a result your scalp will not perspire to the same extent. The main big disadvantage of human hair wigs is that they are much more expensive and need restyling every time they are washed.

Synthetic hair wigs which have been made from top quality materials can in fact look very realistic and cost a lot less than human hair wigs do. Designer synthetic hair wigs which are made by top wig manufacturers are of excellent quality and they can look quite realistic when they are properly fitted to your head. One big advantage they have, is that the synthetic hair wig will retain its styling when washed which saves a lot of work. The main disadvantage of synthetic hair wigs is that they wear out relatively quickly and if they are in constant daily use they will not last much more than 3 months or thereabout. If you only wear your synthetic wig occasionally it will of course last much longer.

The overall best choice, if you feel that can afford it, is definitely a good quality human hair wig. If you intend to wear your wig daily, human hair is probably the only reasonable choice since it will certainly outlast by far a synthetic wig. However if it is your intention just to wear your wig for a change of style occasionally then a synthetic hair wig will do the job quite well for you and costs a lot less.

Wigs For Black Women

So you have decided to look for a nice wig which will look good and will complement your face. The first thing we will advise is that you should not decide on something only because the price is low. Deciding on your wig based only on the price is not a good way to go. In fact it will probably lead to dissappointment. If you buy a low quality wig which does not fit well it definitely will not improve your appearance in any way at all. A cheap wig will probably look wiggy and it will be quite obvious that you are wearing a wig and a poor one at that. What you must have is a high quality wig which will look really super and will do a great deal for your looks.

How do you go about finding a really nice wig? The first thing to look for is the quality of the hair. This is really important. A wig made from synthetic hair seldom looks natural so you will find that human hair is definitely the best way to go, although it does cost more than the synthetic wig.

It is of course possible that you will find a nice looking synthetic wig, at a good price, which looks good on you and that is just fine of course. You will find that human hair wigs vary considerably in quality. A good wig has soft hair which has been processed very little.

Much of the hair used in making wigs is imported from either India or China. This hair is heavy thick black hair which is really ideal for making african american womens wigs. The hair is straight and quite long and may be treated in the same way as your own hair by curling and waving it. You cannot treat synthetic hair with anything hot or you will ruin it.

A really good wig will fit your head closely. In fact a well fitted wig will look as if the hair is natural and growing out of your head. A low quality poorly fitting wig will have the hair far out from your face which is a dead giveaway that it is a wig, and a poor one. The hair parting in a good wig will look natural. Most lower quality wigs will have a quite obvious sewn parting which is not at all real looking.

The final thing to look for is that the density of the hair must be just right for you. If you are a young woman you will wear a very dense wig and it will look just great. When you get a bit older your hair thins somewhat and a dense thick black wig will not look right on you. The wig must be chosen carefully to match your age and your face so that it will be natural and look just great on you.
